Outline
The review, development and deployment of National Standards forms an essential platform on which the LPG Industry maintains and continually develops safe and compliant product, equipment and work practices, thereby ensuring public and industry safety.
Following an extensive review in close liaison with the Australian national standards writing body; Standards Australia, LPG Australia has established an Industry Standards Bureau (ISB) as the principle medium for the review and development of National Standards that relate to the LPG industry.
The ISB is essentially a management system consisting of policies, procedures and work instructions specific to Standards’ development and approved by Standards Australia. The management system is interfaced with Standards Australia’s ‘standards development IT hub’ and is managed by the LPG Australia Secretariat in liaison with a Standards Development Officer.
The ISB management system is subject to periodic review and audits by Standards Australia the LPG Australia Council Working Group – ISB.
The process LPG Australia undertakes when seeking to develop a National Standard involves; firstly, and in all cases, an application for standards development and funding to Standards Australia under the Committee or Collaborative development process. Should that application fail or LPG Australia elect to fund the development process i.e., seeking to fast-track the development, then a standards development committee (specific to each Standard) would be formed within the ISB and work commenced under the direction of the LPG Australia Standards Development Officer.
The standards development committee must represent all key stakeholders engaged in the application of the Standard.
The identification and allocation of priority to standards development is undertaken by the LPG Australian Safety, Standards and Technical Committee (SSTC).
